BORDENTOWN—Lee second BRHS wrestler to reach 100 wins

    After going years without ever having a wrestler earn 100 career wins, the Bordentown High School squad has picked up its second century man in as many seasons.
    With a 5-2 win over Steinert’s Mike Mancino this past Saturday at home, Thomas Lee reached 100 career wins.
    “Josh Slezak did it last year,” noted Bordentown Coach Joe Sprague.”(Lee) is the second to do it. He is on a mission this year and wants to do big things for the team and individually come the post-season.”
    Lee’s victory was part of a 34-23 win over Steinert. Ryan Lawrence (112), Drew Pedersen (119), Shawn Gavin (125), Andrew Davis (140) and Max Bohannan(171) all won by decisions. Jason Cassidy (135) and Brett Pedersen (152) both won by technical fall. Shakir Khalid had Bordentown’s lone pin, taking care of Brandon Bernstein at the 1:53 mark.
    Chris Nitschmann lost a defensive battle to Steinert’s Dylan Borsos, 1-0, at 103 pounds.
    Bordentown also defeated Manalapan, 34-22, on Saturday.
    “Steinert and Manalapan were two very tough teams and to go 2-0 against them is a great accomplishment,” Sprague noted. “We are getting terrific leadership from our senior class and the team is wrestling well right now.”
    Lee (189) won by fall in this match. Khalid Shakir (145) had the other Bordentown pin in the match. Nitschmann (103), Drew Pedersen (119), Gavin (125), Brett Pedersen (152), Bohannan (160) and Matt Bauer (171) all won by decisions. Davis (140) won by a major decision.
    Bordentown staged a late rally to defeat Rancocas Valley, 33-27, this past Monday.
    Bordentown was trailing 27-18 when Brett Pedersen (152 and Bohannan (160) came through with pins. Bordentown was now in the lead, at 30-27. Bauer made sure they kept the lead — and won the match — with a decision at 171 pounds.
    In earlier action, Lee (189) won by technical fall. Lawrence (112) won by major decision. Khalid Shakir (140) won by pin. Drew Pedersen (119) won by decision.
    Bordentown defeated Cinnaminson, 36-25, on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
    Nitschmann (103), Lawrence (112) and Cassidy (130) all won by pin. Gavin (119), Davis (135), Khalid Shakir (140), Brett Pedersen (145), Evan Gibson (152) and Lee (189) all won by decision.
    In earlier action, Bordentown won two of its three matches during action on Jan. 17.
    Bordentown defeated Pemberton, 59-17.
    Nitschmann (103), Brandon Mazur (119), Max Bohannan (160) and Donald Taylor won by forfeit. Lawrence (112), Gavin (130), Cassidy (135) and Andrew Davis (140) won by pin. Brett Pedersen (152) and Bauer (171) won by decision. Lee (189) won by major decision.
    Bordentown also defeated Burlington City, 55-15.
    Lawrence (112), Chorba (130), Davis (135) and Gibson (140) won by pin. Davis needed only 26 seconds to record his pin. Gibson needed all of 30 seconds for his pin at 140.
    Nitschmann (103), Steven Pintado (145) and Taylor (285) won by decision. Bauer (171) won by a major decision. Drew Pedersen (119) and Lee (189) won by forfeit. Gavin (125) won by a technical fall.
    Bordentown was defeated by Burlington Township, 45-19.
    Lee (189) and Cassidy (130) won by pin. Brett Pedersen (152) won by a major decision. Gibson (140) won by decision.
    Bordentown also defeated Holy Cross, 58-6, on Jan. 14.
    Moises Partinez (171) and Davis (135) won by pin. Taylor (285), Brett Pedersen (152), Lawrence (112), Drew Pedersen (119) and Gavin (125) won by decision. Cassidy (140), Khalid Shakir (145), Grant Cortejer (215) and Bohannan (160) all won by forfeit.
    Bordentown was scheduled to wrestle Willingboro last night (Wednesday). It will wrestle at St. Joe’s in Hammonton on Saturday at 10 a.m. It will be at Northern Burlington for a match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

    The Northern Burlington High School wrestling team defeated Pemberton, 47-24, on Wednesday, Jan 21.
    Todd Holsington (112), Harley Palyok (145) and Cody Melton (285) won by pin. John Farrell (103), Matt Nixon (119) and Nathan Case won by forfeit, also picking up six points in each match.
    Josh Jones earned Northern Burlington five points in the team score with his technical fall at 135 pounds. Mike Owens (130) and Jeff Townsend (160) won by decisions.
    Northern Burlington was defeated by Cinnaminson, 49-17, this past Friday night.
    Townsend (160) won by pin. Harvey Singh (130) and Jones (140) won by major decisions. Kam Singh won by decision.
    Northern Burlington was defeated by Delran, 36-24, on Jan. 14. Jones (135) and Holsington (103) both won by pin. Palyok (140), Townsend (160), Joe Smylie (215) and Cody Melton (285) all won by decision.
    Northern Burlington will wrestle at the Jack Welsh Duals in Moorestown on Friday and Saturday. It will host Rancocas Valley at 7 p.m. on Monday and Bordentown at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
