BRICK TOWNSHIP — Police are searching for a white male believed to have robbed the TD Bank on Cedar Bridge Avenue recently.
The man walked into the bank around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 22, handed the teller a note demanding money, and indicated he had a gun, Capt. John E. Rein Jr. said.
The robber fled the bank in a four-door, dark-colored sedan after he was given an undisclosed amount of cash. The gun was never displayed, Rein said.
He is described as being in his late 40s to early 50s, at least 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a heavy build. He had gauze bandaging across his forehead and down the left side of his face. He wore a blue/gray pullover jacket, green pants and a fleece-type knit hat, police said.
Roughly 30 people were in the bank at the time of the robbery, including 12 employees. None of them were injured in the incident, according to the police report.
Anyone with any information about the suspect’s identity should contact Brick Detective James Burgess at 732-262-1100 or the Red Bank office of the FBI.
It was the second time in two weeks an attempted robbery occurred at the bank, Rein said.
Janis A. Sasso, 51, Brick, was arrested and charged with one count of robbery at 11:56 a.m. on Jan. 13. Sasso drove up to the drive-in window and presented a note to the teller demanding money. The teller moved away from the window after receiving the note and Sasso drove away, Rein said.
Bank employees gave police a description of the suspect and the car and told them the vehicle had headed to the Brick Plaza on Chambers Bridge Road, he said.
Sasso was apprehended in her car in front of the Barnes & Noble bookstore. State Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson Jr., Ocean County, set her bail at $100,000, with no 10 percent options. She was then taken to the Ocean County jail in Toms River.
