NBC, BRHS bowling teams chasing titles

Going into action last week, the Northern Burlington High School boys’ bowling team was closing in on a Liberty Division championship and the Greyhound girls were looking for some help.
Going into this past Tuesday’s match against Rancocas Valley, the opposite was true.
“Things certainly turned around a bit,” noted Northern Burlington Coach Ed Del Russo. “It was unexpected, but Moorestown played well.”
What happened is Moorestown defeated Northern Burlington on Tuesday, Jan 20. As a result, Northern Burlington took a 4-1-2 Liberty Division record into this past Tuesday. Moorestown improved to 3-1-1 in the division with its win over Northern Burlington.
“We still have a chance,” Del Russo noted. “We just have to beat Rancocas Valley and have someone beat or tie Moorestown in one of their three remaining (Liberty Division) matches.”
This is the position the Northern Burlington girls’ bowling team was in last week. It needed to have someone defeat Pemberton. It then needed to take care of Pemberton this past Friday. That’s what happened.
“West Tech beat them (Pemberton),” Del Russo said.
This past Friday, Northern Burlington defeated Pemberton, 4-0. The boys also had a 4-0 win over Pemberton.
On the boys’ side, John Webster had a 235 game and 638 series. Justin Howarth had a 248 game and 638 series. Chris Koetas added a 225 game as part of a 637 series.
This past Monday, both the boys and girls defeated Delran, 4-0.
Webster had a 216 as part of a 580 series for the boys.
On the girls’ side, Priscilla Medenbach had a 184 game as part of a 523series.
The boys and girls also both defeated New Egypt last week.
Ahnnalisa Rigi led the girls with a 173 game as part of her 473 series.
For the boys, Webster had a 234 as part of his 622 series. Koetas had a 223 as part of his 613 series.
Following action this past Tuesday, Northern Burlington will have some time off before it begins competition in the various post-season tournaments. Northern Burlington will compete in the BCSL Open on Feb. 10.

The Bordentown girls’ bowling team placed third while competing in the Woodbridge Classic this past Saturday.
According to Bordentown coach Ron Jones, this was one of two major bowling tournaments going on in the state on Saturday.
“Between the two tournaments, you probably had the top 30 teams in the state competing,” Jones said. “Unless you practice and bowl against teams like this, you’ll never know what you can do. You have to bowl against them.”
Brittany Havens had the high game of the day with a 279. Havens finished with a 622 series. Laura Sirak had games of 138, 225 and 190 in a 553 series. Kathy Jones had games of 167, 156 and 172 in a 490 series. Alaura Jones had games of 144, 161 and 174 in a 479 series.
“We had 1,003 pins in the second game,” Jones noted. “That’s the second time this year the girls have gone over 1,000 pins in a game. The first was Wednesday (Jan. 22) against Moorestown.”
The girls defeated Moorestown, 4-0. Havens led the way with a 662 series that included a high game of 246.
The Bordentown boys also defeated Moorestown, 4-0. Ryan McDonald had a 236 game as part of a 625 series.
The Bordentown boys placed seventh in the Woodbridge Classic on Saturday.
    Jeremy Schaeffer had a 213, 180 and 234 as part of a 627 series. Matt Antozzeski had a 195, 214 and 199 as part of a 608 series. McDonald had a 206, 185 and 212 in his 603 series. Sean Congleton had a 187, 169 and 208 in his 564 series. Travis Raynor had a 203, 165 and 158 in his 526 series.
“We had a 1,004 in the first game and 1,011 in the third game,” Jones said. “Any time you go over a 1,000 pins, you’re doing some good bowling. They did it twice.”
Bordentown has matches scheduled next week against New Egypt on Tuesday and Wednesday. If the Bordentown girls win either match, it wins the Freedom Division. The boys can also at least force a tie with Maple Shade in the Freedom Division if it wins out against New Egypt.
