Local Artist Aylin Green Introduces Wearable Art at Tickles&Toes Children’s Boutique
January 29, 2009 – When Aylin Green looks at the piles of buttons and scraps of fabric spread out all over the table, she isn’t thinking about sewing. She’s seeing the colors and patterns in these objects, many of them vintage buttons or pieces of fabric long ago discarded by someone’s grandmother.
Ms. Green finds new meaning for these cast-off objects, by carefully combining them to create one-of-a-kind barrettes and hair clips. She layers colors and textures to produce fun, playful and crafty objects that, in this case, can be worn.
Although the barrettes and clips are a new artistic endeavor for Ms. Green, she has dedicated her life to creating and sharing art experiences. As an artist and art educator, she has always challenged herself and others to take existing images and objects and recycle them into new creations.
As she raises two young boys, Ms. Green is developing a new appreciation and understanding for nurturing and cultivating creative life. And in partnering with Tickles&Toes Children’s Boutique in Lambertville, she hopes to share her passion for creativity with the clientele of this new children’s store.
Tickles&Toes Children’s Boutique will be selling Ms. Green’s barrettes for girls and women. Ms. Green will be at Tickles&Toes on February 14 from 12:00-2:00 pm. She will be available to greet visitors, and to help children make Valentine’s Day cards. Stop by Tickles&Toes at 48 Coryell Street in Lambertville to meet Ms. Green and enjoy a refreshment.
