BORDENTOWN: Police investigate three burglaries

By Geoffrey Wertime, Staff Writer
BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Police are seeking residents’ help in solving three burglaries that occurred recently in the northern part of the township.
The first reportedly occurred about 12:45 p.m. Jan. 20 at a residence on Redwood Avenue. Police said someone forced entry through an outside basement door and then climbed the basement stairs into the residence.
The homeowner confronted the intruder inside the house, and the man fled back down into the basement and out through the damaged door, according to a police report.
Police said the homeowner described the intruder as a tall, thin, black man wearing a knit cap and dark clothing. Police responded, but said they were unable to locate the man, and that nothing was stolen from the residence.
Then on Friday, two burglaries were reported between 10 a.m. and noon. Police said someone apparently entered an unlocked door of a house on Mission Road and stole $2,500 in cash and $500 in jewelry, and someone also forced entry to the rear door of a Route 206 residence and took “numerous articles of jewelry.”
Police said all three incidents occurred near the northbound lanes of Route 206, and police said they believe the burglaries are related.
Residents are encouraged to immediately report any suspicious vehicles or subjects, especially during the daytime. Unexpected visitors who knock or ring residents’ doorbells during the day and have a suspicious or implausible reason for doing so should also be reported to police.
Police request that residents with any information contact Detective Sgt. Brian Pesce at 609-298-4300, extension 2129.
