Kuhlman, Caswell notch pins
The Manville Recreation wrestling team hosted Bernardsville on Saturday in its first home match of the season.
Bernardsville had all the experience over the home team. This time the matchups went Bernardsville’s way and the home team had only four wins on the day.
Shane Demeter at 57 pounds got his takedown and went into the second period tied at 2-2. Demeter then reversed his man for two more. He got reversed to make it 4-4. After an escape and takedown, the match was 7-4 going into the third. Demeter kept his cool and won this 7-6 to get Manville’s first points.
Paul Basta at 60 pounds had another close one. With a first period takedown, Basta led 2-0. Both wrestlers were able to hold each other down for the rest of the bout and Basta won this one 2-0.
Brian Kuhlman was the next Manville wrestler to get on the board. Going into the second period the score was 0-0. Starting down on bottom, Kuhlman got a reversal and after a Bernards escape he got his own takedown and a 4-1 lead going into the third. Starting on top, Kuhlman got a three-point near fall before pinning at 2:35 in the third period.
TJ Caswell (73 pounds) used an underhook to take his man down and right to his back to get his pin at 43 seconds in the first period.
Matt Rogalski wrestled a good match at 95 pounds.
In some of the other matches, Joe Lamonica continued his winning ways with a hard fought 6-5 win. He escaped and got his own takedown in the first to take a 3-2 lead into the second. There he escaped and after he was taken down reversed to make it 6-4 into the third. Lamonica then held on giving up neo more point to make the final 6-5.
Scott Ulicny went into the second period of his match tied at 2-2 before getting the cradle for his pin. Caswell, after a scare in the second, was up 9-5 going into the third. There he stacked his opponent for a pin at 2:15 of the match.
Manville will wrestle two tough matches this Saturday against Bound Brook and South Plainfield starting at 9 a.m.
