HILLSBOROUGH: Emergency academy graduates four local volunteers

By Mary Ellen Zangara, Special Writer
About 100 emergency personnel and firefighters — including four Hillsborough volunteers — received certificates in firefighting and emergency medical skills from the Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy in Hillsborough during the academy’s semiannual graduation ceremony Jan. 22.
Graduates from Manville and Hillsborough and as far away as New Providence joined about 200 colleagues and family members to be recognized.
Hillsborough Rescue Squad members Michael Moeller, Matthew Von Den Steinen and Glenn Watson received certificates for completion of the program presented by instructor Chris Stellatella.
Fire Fighter 1 graduate Shawn Nugent of Hillsborough Fire Co. no. 1 earned his certificate.
The ceremony began with supervisor of the Training Academy Michael Miller followed by opening remarks given by Freeholder Deputy Director Jack Ciattarelli. Both praised the graduates for their accomplishments and the hard work and the many hours they put into the program.
The program began in August and finished late in the fall. Classes were offered in Emergency Medical Technician, Pump Operations 1, Fire Officer 1, and Fire Fighter 1 and 11.
