Michael P. Horan, Lawrence Township
The recent spate of letters to the editor written by Lawrence Republican Councilman Bob Bostock and other local Republican club members have sought to use smoke and mirrors to demonize Councilwoman Pam Mount, Councilman Mike Powers and local Democrats in the eyes of the public. As is Mr. Bostock’s trademark, he intentionally seeks bring a negative public view on something where absolutely no negativity exists.
Despite Mr. Bostock’s shamefully inaccurate assertions, the local Democratic Committee’s open and transparent effort to fill the council vacancy strictly adhered to state statute. Mr. Bostock relentlessly pretends to play the role “good government advocate,” but if the residents of Lawrence take time to see the truth, they will realize he is nothing more than the leader of a three-ring circus of political games.
Placing hurdle after hurdle during the vacancy filling process, Mr. Bostock appeared to be more interested in having personal involvement in deciding who will run against his council colleague Rick Miller in the November election. Mr. Miller himself has sat silent without action, as he has done for most of his career on township council, and let Mr. Bostock pollute Lawrence with political tricks that would rival those played in Washington – a place Bostock is very familiar and comfortable with professionally.
It’s time for our Republican councilmen to clean up their act and get on with the proper business of Lawrence. Apparently they have learned nothing from recent elections where voters called for true bipartisanship and an end to political games.
