“Never let a serious crisis go to waste”, said President Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, regarding how the recession and financial crisis will help them implement social engineering and spending that have been, per the online Wall Street Journal (“A 40-Year Wish List”, Jan. 28, 2009) Democratic pet projects for two generations.
It is arguable that any governmental economic stimulus will actually be successful. In this plan to dole out $819 billion, I wonder how $2 billion for child care subsidies, $50 billion for the National Endowment for the Arts, $66 billion for the Education Department and $650 million for digital TV conversion coupons will stimulate the economy. The list goes on.
Still unemployed for over a year, I am, like many, concerned about the future. Our government and private sectors need to work positively to create opportunities for all Americans by stabilizing the foundation of our financial and economic systems. This stimulus plan is the wrong approach at the wrong time and is being rushed through Congress without vetting and debate. I thank Rep. Chris Smith and all House members who voted against this plan. They have the greater interest of all Americans, not simply special interests, in mind.
