Seniors in the community are invited to attend a program entitled Civil War Ironclads, presented by the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission and sponsored by Senior Fellowship.
The program takes place Tuesday, Feb. 10, at noon in Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury. The program will include discussions of the contributions of women, African-Americans and New Jerseyans during the Civil War. See a Civil War sailor’s uniform, hear information about Lewis T. Johnson, a sailor aboard the USS Weehawken and examine the military gear he would have packed. There will be a model reproduction of the USS Montauk.
This program is funded by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. This is a truly fascinating story that is little known to the public. Those who would like to attend are asked to pre-register by noon, Sunday, Feb. 8, by calling Phyllis at 609-409-8533. Soup and dessert will be served.
