HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP UPDATE

Jan. 26 committee session

By John Tredrea, Staff Writer
Hopewell Township will accept a $3,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for preparation of a community forestry plan. The Township Committee voted unanimously Jan. 26 to accept the grant.
   • Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough and Pennington will each appoint two alternate members to an Open Space Advisory Committee under an ordinance adopted unanimously by the committee.
Under an old ordinance, each of the three municipalities appointed one alternate member to the advisory committee. The second alternate member has been added to give the committee a better chance of having the quorum it needs to hold a meeting.
The Valley’s open space advisory group was formed in 1999. There are five regular members from the township and two regular members each from Hopewell Borough and Pennington.
   • The committee also voted unanimously in favor of:
   — Renewing for 2009 a contract with Hamilton under which Hopewell obtains various health services from Hamilton. Those services include tuberculin testing, Hepatitis B vaccinations and child health conferences.
   — A 2009 contract with Lawrence Township for child health services, including immunizations and lead paint risk assessments and investigations.
