At 12:30 p.m. Jan. 21, a caller reported the theft of $3,619 in cash. The caller said the cash was stolen from a backpack in his vehicle, and believed the theft occurred when the vehicle was parked at the Grub Hut on North Main Street.
An investigation is ongoing.
Jamie Cicalese, 25, of Millington, was charged with disorderly conduct at 1:57 a.m. Jan 23, after Quick Chek employees reported a customer yelling at the Brooks Boulevard store.
Upon arriving at the scene, patrols reported finding Ms. Cicalese yelling obscenities in the store. Ms. Cicalese continued yelling while police attempted to secure a ride home for her, and was charged with disorderly conduct.
She was released to a family member after receiving a court summons.
Henry Fierst III, 27, of South Tenth Avenue, was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident at 8:52 p.m. Jan. 23.
A caller reported someone hit a vehicle parked on Bound Brook Avenue and left the scene. Police located the vehicle, and reported following a trail of fluids to South Tenth Avenue, where they found Mr. Fierst.
Mr. Fierst was charged after failing several balance tests, and was released to a family member after processing.
Police responded to a series of reports of spray painting on buildings and vehicles Jan. 23.
The first report, made by a Williams Street resident, reported spray-painted graffiti on the Department of Public Works garage and the Kyle Street underpass at 7:27 a.m. At 8:39 a.m., a Manville Avenue resident reported someone spray painted the drivers’ side of a vehicle belonging to his business. The damage was estimated at $100.
And at 11:31 a.m. the same day, a Manville Avenue business owner reported the side of his building was spray painted. The damage is estimated at $50.
Police are investigating two thefts at the Spring Garden Restaurant on South Main Street, with $1,688 in cash and checks missing from the business.
Police reported receiving a call about the second theft at 11:29 a.m. Jan. 26, and employees reported the first theft after officer arrived at the business. An investigation into the theft is ongoing.
Kevin Smith, 27, of North Plainfield, was charged with third-degree theft, Jan. 27, for allegedly taking five bank deposits, valued at $11,778.77 from the CVS on South Main Street.
According to police, a loss prevention manager for CVS reported the theft at 2:18 p.m. Jan. 26. The store’s investigation determined Mr. Smith, a former manager at the store, allegedly took the deposits between Jan. 17 and Jan. 21, the loss prevention manager said.
Police said Mr. Smith admitted the theft after being charged, and was released pending a court date.
Clay Kuhlman, 38, no address given, was charged with disorderly conduct at 2:20 a.m. Jan. 29 after police responded to a report of someone yelling on Williams Street at 1:36 a.m. that day.
Responding officers found Mr. Kuhlman yelling and disturbing area residents. Police reported telling Mr. Kuhlman to stop, but a second complaint was subsequently made.
Mr. Kuhlman was charged following the second incident, and was lodged in Somerset County Jail in default of $500 bail.
Alan Villarevia, 36, of North 21st Avenue, was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a breath test at 1:42 a.m. Jan. 31, after police stopped him near the intersection of Gress Street and Clinton Avenue for an unsafe lane change.
During the ensuing investigation, police reported finding an outstanding warrant for $1,500 out of East Brunswick. Mr. Villarevia was transported to the East Brunswick Police Department after the charges were filed.
Police observed a small, black spray-painted symbol on the southeast corner of the emergency services unit on North Main Street building, and determined the symbol could be a gang tag. Police are investigating the incident.
Damage to the building is estimated at $100.
Anatoliy Kochetkov, 41, of Monroe, N.Y., was charged with defiant trespassing after returning to the Adesa Auto Auctions at 9:38 a.m. Jan. 31 after company representatives asked him to leave the site.
Police received a call at 9:16 a.m. that day, reporting a reckless driver at the North Main Street site. Upon reaching the scene, police spoke with Mr. Kochetkov, who voluntarily left the site. Police received another call 20 minutes later, reporting Mr. Kochetkov returned.
Mr. Kochetkov was released after a friend posted a $1,000 bond.
At 1:41 p.m. Jan. 31, a South Bank Street caller reported four tires on her 2007 Mazda were slashed while parked in front of her residence. The tires are estimated to cost $700 to replace.
A police patrol reported finding graffiti on the north side of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Washington Avenue at 1:35 a.m. Feb. 1. Police determined one of the symbols, a crown with the letters “AVOD” above it, was gang related.
The words “crime pays” were also painted on the building. The damage is estimated at $100.
