MONTGOMERY: Girl Scouts hold formal dress consignment sale

MONTGOMERY — Women looking to save money on formal dresses will have a chance to find a deal at a dress consignment sale Feb. 28 at the Harlington Reformed Church.
Montgomery Senior Girl Scout Troop 886 will hold the sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a fundraiser, said Karen Koppa, a Montgomery resident and parent of one of the seven girls in the troop. Dresses for all ages and sizes are currently being accepted for the sale, and they’re aiming to gather a quality selection, she said.”We’re hoping that there will be some nice, wonderful dresses,” she said.
The idea for the fundraiser came naturally, she said.
”If you look at the girls, they’ve got events, and they’re borrowing dresses back and forth,” she said. “They’ve got dresses in their closet — we all do.”
Until Feb. 26, dresses may be dropped off at 22 Saddlewood Court, Belle Mead, or you can contact the troop for pickup at 908-313-8803 or [email protected].
If the dress is sold, 80 percent of the sale price will be returned the consignor, with the remainder or a minimum of $10 going to the troop, Ms. Koppa said. Unsold dresses will be returned or donated to charity, she said.
Dresses should be in “nearly new” condition. The troop asks that they are no older than three years old or classically styled. Dresses should also we freshly laundered or dry cleaned and hangered.
