Photography exhibit
    Through Friday, Feb. 20 — Crafts Creek Spring Hill Brook Watershed Association will present a photography exhibit, “A Portrait of Mansfield Township” at the Mansfield Municipal Building, 24548 E. Main St., Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Feb. 20. A reception for the photographers will be held Friday, Jan. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Winter camp
    Friday, Feb. 13 — Fernbrook Farms Education Center will hold a one-day winter camp program from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children ages 6 to 11 will participate in winter tracking and birding activities. Additional activities include outdoor cooking, winter wilderness survival, orienteering, crafts and a campfire. The cost for the day is $60 and includes two snacks, hot chocolate and soup at lunch. Community concert
    Sunday, Feb. 15 — Community Concerts of Bordentown will present the third concert of the 2008-2009 series at 3 p.m. in the Bordentown Middle School Auditorium on Dunn’s Mill Road. This concert will feature The Eastern Wind Symphony. The Symphony was conceived in 1996 and has performed at the NJ Performing Arts Center, Trenton War Memorial and for the Bordentown 325th Anniversary Celebration. Their performance is dedicated to the very best wind and percussion literature. Tickets are available for $15 at the door for adults and $5 for students. Memberships are still available for the final three concerts at $30.
La Leche League
    Friday, Feb. 20 — La Leche League (LLL) of Crosswicks meets the third Friday of each month at 10 a.m., with a meet-and-greet from 9:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.
    Meetings emphasize the joys of breastfeeding while they inform and encourage mothers who wish to nurse their babies. Discussions at meetings include the latest medical research as well as mothers’ personal experiences. LLL services include a lending library and a 24-hour phone help for breastfeeding problems and questions..

1950s dance
    Saturday, Feb. 21 — Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 Ladies Auxilary will be holding their annual ‘50s dance with DJ Jerry Blavat on Feb. 21 at the lodge’s lower ballroom. Cost is $25, which includes free beer, soda & snacks. For tickets call Mary Lou, 298-3775, or Mary Ann, 586-6454.
Sock Hop
    Saturday, Feb. 21— The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39, Fourth Avenue, Roebling, will sponsor an old fashioned Sock Hop on Saturday, Feb. 21. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with a buffet/dancing to begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and can be reserved by calling Phil at 609-499-4232. This will be a cash bar. Come out and enjoy the music. Prizes will be awarded for the best male and female ‘50s outfit.
Vera Bradley bingo
    Saturday, Feb. 21 — St. Mary’s PTA will sponsor a Vera Bradley Bingo with doors opening at 6 p.m. and bingo starting at 7 p.m. The bingo will be held at St. Mary’s school hall, 30 Elizabeth St. in Bordentown City.
    All prizes are authentic Vera Bradley merchandise and range in value from $10 to several hundred dollars. The cost of entrance is $25, which includes your game boards. Extra sheets will be available at $1 per sheet. There will also be a raffle and a cash 50/50. The kitchen will be open serving hot food and beverages. All proceeds benefit St. Mary’s PTA. No one under 18 permitted. This will be strictly enforced.

Black history
    Sunday, Feb. 22 — Mt. Zion AME Church at 36 E. Burlington St. will hold a Black History Month event at noon. Members of the church will portray famous African- Americans and African-American fashions will be worn and displayed. After the service, a traditional Soul Food meal will be served.
Advisory Committee
    Monday, Feb. 23 —The Bordentown City Land Development Ordinance and Master Plan Citizen’s Advisory Committee has scheduled its anticipated last meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Carslake Community Center. The topics of discussion will include Home Based Occupations, Design and Environmental Standards and summary documents. The public is welcome to comment on these topics.
Earth Talk
    Tuesday, Feb. 24 — Earth Talk: Film: “Garbage: The Revolution Starts at Home” will be shown at 7 p.m.
    This film follows a family who agrees to save their garbage for three months, and depicts the route their garbage travels once it is placed at the curb. A speaker will elaborate on how Burlington County treats garbage locally.
Senior trip
    Wednesday, Feb. 25 — Bordentown City Senior Citizens are having a trip to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see “America of Music.” The bus leaves from Carslake Center, 207 Crosswicks St., at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m. Call Polly, 298-9218.
Friends for the Marsh
    Saturday, Feb. 28 —Light rail trip through the marsh and to Roebling meets at 11 a.m. with leader Barbara Ross. Meet in the parking lot of the Bordentown Light Rail station (100 W. Park Avenue at Prince Street, above the boat landing) at 11 a.m. sharp, purchase tickets.

Soccer signup

Summer camp
    We’ll be “Powering Up” for God at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Monday, Aug. 11- Friday, Aug. 15 from 9-11:30 a.m. each day.
    Kids aged 3 (and potty trained) through rising sixth graders are invited to attend an action packed week of science based fun. There will be food, games, crafts, dramas, music and more. Pre-registration is strongly required due to space limitations.

Grief support
    Rainbows is an international peer support group for children and adolescents who have experienced death, divorce, separation or other family loss.

    A women’s support group and stress management support group, both led by experienced, licensed mental health professionals, are now forming.

Training group
    Interested in participating in group runs throughout beautiful northern Burlington County? A training group is now forming for various fall races. Whether you’re a beginner, building a base for marathons, preparing for a race of a shorter distance, or just want some company in your quest for fitness, join the group on Saturday and Sunday mornings as they explore the roads of Mansfield, Springfield, Chesterfield and any other fields they can find. Distances will vary, and all paces will be accommodated.

Cat volunteers needed
    Bordentown City Cats has collected eight adorable kittens from different sites around the city. They are ready for their new life in a loving home. Any responsible person or family is welcome to fill out an application.

    The group is also looking for volunteers to feed, trap, provide transportation to and from vet appointments, or be available once a month for cleanup at the adoption center at an area PetSmart store.
    In addition, the group is always looking for caring people to foster friendly cats and kittens until they are ready to be put up for adoption.
Volunteers needed
    The Mansfield Township Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers for a domestic violence response team. The team members will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referral at the time of a domestic violence crisis.
    Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid drivers license, be willing to serve a minimum of four 12-hour shifts per month, and submit to background investigations, including fingerprinting. A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course, to be held over an eight-week period during evening and weekend hours is required and will be provided to successful applicants. An understanding of domestic violence issues is a plus, as is a bilingual capacity.

Volunteers needed
    Volunteers are needed to join the River’s Edge Domestic Violence Response Team. Participants will be called or paged by police to speak with a victim of domestic violence and provide them with options. Volunteers will receive 40 hours of initial training provided by Providence House of Burlington County.
    Volunteers must be 18 years or older and a resident of Florence, Burlington Township or Burlington City, and must have a valid N.J. drivers license, available transportation and no criminal history. They must be available for a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per month.
    Anyone interested can pick up an application at the Florence Township, Burlington Township or Burlington City police stations, or contact Patrolman Brian Boldizar at 609-499-3131.
WIC program
    The Bordentown County WIC (Women, Infants, Children) Program currently has a clinic in the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bordentown.
    The WIC is a federally funded supplemental nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under 5 years old. Eligibility for the program is based on income and nutritional and/or medical risk.
