A pre-Valentine’s event is appreciated

Plaid skirt and UGGS, bifocals and an ipod.
A generation skipped between them but together they laughed and created. Saturday’s annual Valentine Card Making event at The Arts Council of Princeton may have sounded like “kids stuff” but within the beautiful new sunshine filled space, three generations shared not only candy conversation hearts but sweet conversation. Hands of varying age worked the generous amount of materials laid out to support the yearly effort to transform feelings into product worthy of presentations of love on the 14th.
As a 40-something mom I enjoyed the time with my pre-teen daughter and her friend. I also enjoyed witnessing the varied generations in the room. I was reminded again about the extreme value of shared community experiences and the importance of a town’s commitment to creating opportunities for all the generations to come together and interact.
The redesign of the township pool complex, new living environments, in town public transportation and community gatherings will benefit if created and planned with an eye towards intergenerational interactions and relationships.
Seventy years may have separated the ages in attendance at Saturday’s Arts Council event but the laugh the 70-something dad and daughter shared as he placed an “email me” conversation heart on his Valentine would warm the heart of all ages.
