BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — The Township Committee has formally changed the name of one of the township’s two “Roosevelt Avenues” to “Lone Bugler Way.”
The new name, approved unanimously at the committee’s Monday meeting, is meant to honor retired Army 1st Sgt. Richard Pinter, who resides on the road.
At a committee meeting in late December, Committeeman Bruce Hill, who was mayor at the time, surprised Mr. Pinter with the announcement that he planned to seek the change. Mr. Hill then presented him with a large sign with the street name, and praised Mr. Pinter for his service to veterans.
Mr. Pinter has been playing taps at military funerals and other events for 38 years while serving in the military and eight years since his military retirement in 2000.
In other business Monday, Committeeman Mark Roselli congratulated Chief Financial Officer David Kocian and Township Administrator Leonard Klepner, who recently made a presentation which earned the township a bond rating of AA from the credit-rating agency Standard & Poor’s.
That rating, the second-highest possible, is up from the township’s previous rating of A++, Mr. Roselli said.
Reasons for the high rating included a strong tax base, relatively high household wealth, and high employment rate, as well as financial decisions the township has made, Mr. Roselli said.
“It’s not easy, in this economic climate, to have this type of bond rating,” he said, “and I think for the residents and the taxpayers it’s a clear indication that the course we’ve struck over the last eight years on the management side works and has been working.”
Bordentown Township is the only municipality in Burlington County to have achieved such a rating, and one of only two entities in the county, Mr. Klepner said.
