Dentistry volunteers ‘give kids a smile’

More than 80 patients took advantage of free services offered Friday at a local dentistry office. Kidzdent of Old Bridge, Route 516, participated in the nationwide program “Give Kids a Smile,” donating their medical services for children in need. Dr. Cormac Mac Dermott and Dr. Daniel Cohen led the team of 20 volunteers, offering free preventive and emergency dental care to children ages 12 and under during the one-day event.

Dr. Cavan Brunsden, owner of Kidzdent and the New Jersey chairman of “Give Kids a Smile,” said he was delighted to open his practice to the cause. He said the donated dental treatment totaled approximately $14,000.

Bagel Boy, a local store, participated in the event by providing breakfast, lunch and refreshments for the volunteers.

The event is held each year on the first Friday of February, which is National Children’s Dental Health Month.
