HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: No-passing rule eyed for Province Line Road

Montgomery also is moving to adopt an ordinance that will prohibit motor vehicle passing on the portion there

Passing would be prohibited in both directions on the 3.3-mile portion of Province Line Road that runs through Hopewell Township if a proposed ordinance is adopted as expected Feb. 23.
The full Township Committee voted to introduce the ordinance Monday night.
A portion of Province Line Road also is in Montgomery Township.
Hopewell Township Administrator/Engineer Paul Pogorzelski said Monday that Montgomery also is moving to adopt an ordinance that will prohibit motor vehicle passing, in both directions, on the full length of the portion of Province Line Road that lies in that township.
The two townships have been conferring on the issue for some time, Mr. Pogorzelski said.
ALSO at Monday night’s meeting, Mr. Pogorzelski said he has been studying the possibility of using brine on township roads during the winter months.
He said a movement to the use of brine is gaining momentum in some areas of the country because climate changes are resulting in less snow, but more icy road conditions, than was the case for many years.
The use of brine on roads before impending ice storms may retard or prevent the formation of ice on those roads, Mr. Pogorzelski said.
He noted that the use of brine would require some new equipment.
