Poetry Series: Poets Betty Lies and Joyce Greenberg Lott, longtime teachers with a passion for poetry, are both members of the writing and performance group, Cool Women Poets. They will read at the South Brunswick Library at 2 p.m., 110 Kingston Lane in Monmouth Junction. Following their performance, there will be open readings by audience members. Admission is free though a donation of a non-perishable food item to the South Brunswick Food Pantry is appreciated.

Senior support: The South Brunswick Senior Center will be starting a monthly support group for those people who are overwhelmed with the stresses of every day life. Whether you are dealing with ‘holiday blues,’ health concerns, losses, care giving or interpersonal issues the mutual support that can be derived from others that are in the ‘same boat’ can be extremely helpful. The group discussions are strictly confidential; meetings are free and open to South Brunswick residents 55 and older. The first meeting will be held noon to 1:30 p.m. Limited enrollment. Blood pressure screenings: Have your blood pressure checked for free on in the lobby of the South Brunswick Public Library. It could save your life. Representatives for the South Brunswick Health Department will be at a table in the library’s lobby from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Free health literature will also be available. No appointments are necessary.

Sons of Tikvah: The Sons of Tikvah band will hold a concert titled We Stand with Israel at B’nai Tikvah, 1001 Finnegans Lane, at 4 p.m. Cantors from Middlesex County Synagogues, The Sons of Tikvah Band, Makehlat Hamerkaz and more will be on hand. Pancake supper: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church will hold its annual pancake supper from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Dinner will feature pancakes, sausages and ice cream. Supper held each year on the even of Ash Wednesday. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children. Babies under a year old are free. Comedy night: Optimist International is holding a “Laughter & Giving Stand-up Comedy Night,” at 7 p.m. at the South Brunswick Senior Center, 540 Ridge Road. The show will feature comedians Joe Conte and Ted Daniels. It marks the chapter’s first fundraiser this year. Celebrity basketball game: South Brunswick High School Project Graduation, in conjunction with the non-profit Dreams for Kids, is sponsoring a basketball game between a team of professional athletes competing against multiple teams of South Brunswick students, parents, teachers and coaches. There will also be a limited access VIP session. Advanced ticket sales are encouraged. The cost is $30 for the VIP session which includes entry to the game. It is $10 for the game only. Tickets purchased on the day of the event will be $40 for the VIP session and $15.00 for the game.
