BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Homemade baked goods, 150 sandwiches, and other assorted treats made up the recipe for some Valentine’s Day care late last week, when volunteers from the Bordentown Township Senior Club sent their preparations off to local recovering soldiers.
About 12 seniors gathered at the Bordentown Township Senior Center Feb. 12 to put everything together as part of the group’s second annual Valentine’s Outreach Program, which benefits the Warrior Transition Unit on the Fort Dix Base.
Once everything was ready, committeeman and former Marine Bruce Hill, his wife Kathy, Senior Club President Eve Ziegler, and Veterans Advisory Committee Chairman Harry Havens went on to deliver the donation at the base.
“It’s terrific,” Mr. Havens said of the program. “When we come down there, they can’t express how happy they are to see (the donations).”
The group also provided materials to the Bordentown Regional High School Art Club, who made a scrapbook of letters to the 150 soldiers in the base’s medical hold unit.
