It’s getting tougher and tougher to keep up with everything that goes on around here.
So in an effort to catch up, here are some things that have slipped through the cracks. Instead of emptying the notebook, this is more like things that never got in the notebook.
Both the Montgomery High girls and West Windsor-Plainsboro High North boys were eliminated from the state fencing tournament this week. The Cougars dropped a 16-11 decision to Columbia on Tuesday. Ambika Singh led a 7-2 performance by the foil team, which also saw Nina Kuzman and Alanna Liao win two matches apiece.
WW-P North traveled to Ridge on Wednesday and dropped a 17-10 decision to the fourth-seeded Red Devils. The Knights, in the ‘Sweet 16’ for the first time, received two wins in sabre from Michael Zhuang and two wins in foil from Robert Goldhirsch.
The state prep swim meets were held this week at Lawrenceville. On Tuesday in the boys meet, the Hun School finished fifth in the Prep A division. Guy Helman’s ninth place finish in the 500 free was the top individual finish for the Raiders. On Wednesday, the Raider girls finished seventh in the state Prep A meet. Emily Logan was second in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 individual medley to lead Hun.
Last weekend was a pretty impressive one for the Princeton University ice hockey teams. The men went on the road and pulled out a pair of impressive wins. The Tigers opened the weekend with an overtime win at Colgate, then came back the next night to score two goals in the final 36 seconds to beat Cornell, 2-1. PU is home this weekend for two more big games, hosting Clarkson tonight at 7 p.m. and St. Lawrence on Saturday at 4 p.m. Princeton is currently third in the ECAC, three points behind Yale and one point behind Cornell.
The PU women were at home and also had a big weekend. The Tigers beat Colgate, 3-1, on Friday and then came back to play Cornell to a 2-2 tie on Senior Night at Baker Rink. The Tigers are tied for fourth in the ECAC with four games to play. They trail first-place St. Lawrence by six points.
While Princeton Day School and Stuart Country Day were opening the state Prep B tournament with an exciting game on Wednesday, the Hun school boys and girls teams are preparing for a busy week. Both teams play in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League Tournament this weekend at Lawrenceville, then open the state Prep A tournament on Feb. 21. The fourth-seeded Hun boys take on fifth-seeded Peddie tonight in the MAPL opener with the winner facing top-seeded Blair on Saturday. The second-seeded Hun girls have a first-round bye and won’t play until Saturday, most likely against No. 3 Blair.
The Princeton and WW-P South ice hockey teams played to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday night. The Pirates are 12-5-2 heading into tonight’s rivalry game against WW-P North at Lawrenceville, while Princeton is 7-8-2 with two games remaining before the cutoff to be .500.
