The segment of Robeson Place between Witherspoon Street and Chambers Street will remain closed to daytime traffic until Friday as road crews finish up utility work associated with the Hulfish North development project there, police said Monday.
The construction work involves the installation of sewer lines and other infrastructure needed for the nearby development, according to Princeton Borough Lt. Sharon Papp.
Workers are expected to begin restriping the roadway and complete the reinstallation of parking meters and other items as the work concludes late this week, Lt. Papp said.
At that time detours that took traffic around the closures on Hulfish and other adjacent streets will end.
However, locals and commuters motoring through downtown Princeton can expect more rush-hour traffic headaches in the future.
Lt. Papp said Public Service Electric & Gas workers are expected to descend on the same site sometime next month, for work on gas lines and other energy infrastructure. The same is expected of workers from New Jersey American Water Co., who will do similar work on the site sometime in the coming months, Lt. Papp said.
Both projects will result in similar closures and detours, according to police.
Following construction Robeson Place will maintain the current road configuration.
