City native announces run for commission

Heather Cheesman of Bordentown City
To the editor:
My name is Heather Cheesman and I am running for Bordentown City Commissioner in 2009. Many of you know me, having attended local schools with me or worked with me on local volunteer activities. For those who don’t, I’d like to introduce myself: I am a 37-year-old woman, married with two children.
I attended the Bordentown school district for all 12 grades, serving as class president. I continued serving as Student Government Association president at Rowan University. I used my Criminal Justice degree to start a career with the Department of Corrections at the Youth Correctional Facility here in Bordentown.
After a hiatus as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, I returned to work at the Juvenile Justice Commission, and went on to become a certified teacher.
I have a master’s degree in Special Education, and I’ve taught down the street at McFarland. I’ve been a real estate agent in Bordentown. I’ve served as a Municipal Clerk. I am a breast cancer survivor. I’ve served on the Bordentown Regional School Board. I am a Leadership New Jersey Fellow.
I was a member of the Bordentown 325th committee. All my kids attend Bordentown schools and community programs. I love my city, and I am ready to help lead it as City Commissioner.
I am running on a platform of “Responsible and Responsive City Government” — with particular emphasis on keeping Bordentown a safe place to raise our kids, improving the average citizen’s access to government, and keeping taxes reasonable for all citizens. I believe we need an exceedingly concerned, savvy and accountable government, and I will work to provide it.
