Dress for Success Mercer County Launches Mentoring and Support Network
Celebrates First Year with 300 Suitings
(HAMILTON, N.J. – Feb. 18, 2009) Dress for Success Mercer County has launched its Professional Women’s Group, a monthly mentoring and support network for its clients who have obtained employment.
“We know that providing work appropriate attire for a job interview is just the beginning in helping disadvantaged women attain economic self sufficiency, keeping the jobs they get and advancing to higher paying positions,” said Ann McNally of Lawrenceville, co-chair of the Professional Women’s Group (PWG) committee.
“Providing ongoing support once our clients are employed is critical to their long-term success. We’re committed to helping them learn how to deal with difficult office situations and manage work and family issues,” said Phoenix Smith of Lawrenceville, co-chair of the PWG committee.
Smith and McNally said that volunteer mentors will maintain contact with clients leading up to and for three months following successful job interviews. A monthly support group meeting will focus on important employment issues such as workplace etiquette and managing personal finances.
Dress for Success Mercer County is a nonprofit organization based in Hamilton Township that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Marking its first year in operation, Dress for Success Mercer County suited its 300th client. The organization collects donated suits and appropriate work attire for women who have obtained job interviews. Clients are referred to Dress for Success Mercer County from other local nonprofit organizations.
“Dress for Success Mercer County relies entirely upon charitable donations,” said Debbie Bronfeld, executive director. “We are very grateful to those who have supported us in our start up year. We’ve already exceeded our first year goals and look forward to growing the organization and serving many more women in the upcoming year.”
