BURLINGTON COUNTY: Nominations sought for preservation awards

In honor of Historic Preservation Month in May, Burlington County is seeking nominations by March 31 for its annual awards program which recognizes residents, organizations and municipalities that have contributed to the preservation of county history.

Presented by the Burlington County Freeholders, the awards recognize those who have taken steps to preserve and document historical resources, as well as those who have proven to be remarkable leaders and educators in the field of history.

The categories for Historic Preservation include: the preservation and restoration of homes and other buildings; continuing use of historic buildings for business purposes; adaptive use/rehabilitation; the rehabilitation of a public structure, object or site; preservation planning and preservation education; archival records/documentation; and preservation leadership.

The categories for History Recognition include: published history; achievement and leadership; education; and “new history,” which recognizes efforts to highlight new approaches to the understanding of the county’s past.
