HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Senior board to unveil plans for center

Plan developed in concert with architectural firm of Clarke Caton Hintz and calls for an 11,000-square-foot structure

The Hopewell Valley Senior Advisory Board (HVSAB) will present architectural plans and funding recommendations for a state-of-the-art Hopewell Valley Senior Center at the Feb. 23 meeting of the Hopewell Township Committee.
The plan was developed in concert with the architectural firm of Clarke Caton Hintz and calls for an 11,000-square-foot structure in either one or two stories.
”This could be a green building,” said HVSAB Chairman Larry Mansier.
Details to be worked out are the purchase and ownership of the land on which the center will be built, overall funding for the project and the ongoing financial support of the center’s operation after its construction. The HVSAB looks to the county and the state for major grants, as well as state and federal appropriations and donations from foundations and individuals.
”This is a legacy project,” said Mr. Mansier. “What we are hoping to create is a building that serves seniors not only in the near future but for generations to come. The center would be a source of pride for the residents of Hopewell Valley, a caring community that serves all its members.”
The HVSAB also will make presentations in Pennington and Hopewell boroughs. The date for Pennington is March 2. Hopewell Borough has not been scheduled a time yet.
According to Hopewell Township Mayor Vanessa Sandom, the senior center would be in the same complex as the planned Valley YMCA. But it would be a different building and different funding sources would be used.
