A caller reported seeing gold spray paint on a Brooks Boulevard business at 2:38 p.m. Feb. 9. The cost to repair the graffiti was estimated at $100.
A Richard Avenue resident reported finding a window on her van broken at 8:29 p.m. Feb. 9. The drivers’ side window on the vehicle is valued at $300.
A Colorado Avenue resident reported criminal mischief to his Dodge pickup truck at 10:22 p.m. Feb. 10. Police confirmed a section of rear sliding window on the resident’s truck was damaged by a rock, and estimated the damage at $200.
Robert Hirshfield, 77, of Somerset, was charged with careless driving after hitting another vehicle on South Main Street at 9:11 p.m. Feb. 11. Police responded to a call about a two-car accident near Wilhousky Street, with one injury reported.
Upon arriving at the scene with the Manville Rescue Squad, police determined Mr. Hirshfield hit the other vehicle, driven by John D. Green, 30, no address given, while changing lanes. The cars went over the curb and onto a lawn, police said.
Both drivers and Mr. Hirshfield’s wife, Janet Hirshfield, 70, were transported to Somerset Medical Center with non-serious injuries.
Diana Mediata, 25, of New York, was charged with trespassing on the Adesa Auto Auctions lot on North Main Street at 12:04 p.m. Feb. 12. Ms. Mediata was transported to Somerset County Jail in default of $1,000 cash bail.
At 2:59 p.m. Feb. 12, an Adesa Auto Auctions employee reported a white 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan was taken from a loading area at the North Main Street site. The employee believed the theft occurred between December and Feb. 12.
The vehicle, valued at $25,000, was entered in the National Crime Information Center’s stolen vehicles database.
A Reading Cinema employee reported a break-in to a customer’s vehicle at 12:15 a.m. Feb. 14. A $400 Magellan GPS unit was reported missing from the vehicle and an investigation is ongoing.
A second vehicle theft was reported at 12:37 a.m. Feb. 14, at the theater. According to police, several unspecified pieces of electronic equipment, valued at $875, were removed from a vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.
At 10:38 a.m. Feb. 14, a Bound Brook Avenue caller reported someone slashed the left front tire on his GMC Sierra while parked at the residence. The cost to repair the tire was estimated at $195.
A 16-year-old Roosevelt Avenue resident was charged with shoplifting $13.34 in food items from Quick Chek at 1:54 a.m. Feb. 14, after police received a call from a manager at the Brooks Boulevard store.
Upon arrival, police determined the juveniles left the scene, but located one a short distance away. The teenager later allegedly admitted to the theft, and was released to his parents after processing.
