EAST WINDSOR: Police Beat

   John Picciano, 24, of Woodbridge, was charged Feb. 9 with possession of a handgun, possession of hollow point ammunition and driving while intoxicated.
   Police said they observed Mr. Picciano exit the Shell Gasoline station on Route 33 at 3:20 a.m. and drive west at a very high rate of speed, before making a dangerous turn onto Probasco Road. Police said they observed a .38-caliber handgun on the floor in front of the front passenger seat, and a full search of the vehicle revealed that the handgun was loaded with hollow-point bullets.
   He also was charged with reckless driving and careless driving.
   He was released after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail.

   Hryhoriy Andrushko, 34, of Howell, was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated.
   Police said Mr. Andrushko struck the rear of an sport utility vehicle stopped at a red traffic light on Stockton Street at 12:40 a.m.. Police said both vehicles sustained very minor damage.
   Mr. Andrushko also was charged with reckless driving, careless driving, DWI in a school zone, use of a cellular phone without a hands-free device, and obstructed view.

   Russell Leverets, 18, of Windsor Castle Apartments, was charged Feb. 14 with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
   Police said an officer went to the L building of Windsor Castle Apartments to arrest Mr. Leverets on a warrant from Bordentown. Police said the officer smelled burning marijuana in the apartment, and upon searching the apartment found a sandwich bag filled with marijuana, a smoldering marijuana cigarette and some additional loose marijuana in his bedroom.
   Mr. Leverets also was charged with possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and transferred to Bordentown Township police.

   Michael Mendaz, 20, of Etra Road, was charged Monday with obstructing justice.
   Police said they pulled Mr. Mendaz over on Dennison Drive at 4:30 a.m. when he was observed driving without wearing a seatbelt. Police said Mr. Mendaz gave the officers a false name, and he was found to have an active warrant from East Windsor.
   He also was charged with hindering apprehension, being an unlicensed driver, failure to wear a seat belt and having an obstructed view.

   The owner of a 2007 Volvo C70 said a Cannon digital camera and a HP laptop computer were stolen from his vehicle between 9 a.m. Feb. 7 and 9 a.m. Feb. 8 while it was parked on Livingston Drive.
   Police said there was no sign of forced entry. The victim said the items had a combined value of $6,249.

   Oscar Alvarado, 22, of Upper Darby, Pa., was charged Feb. 15 with shoplifting.
   Police said an employee of WaWa observed him eat three hot dogs and conceal a package of hamburger rolls down the front of his pants.

   A home in the 800 block of Windsor Perrineville Road was reported burglarized between 4:15 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. Feb. 13. The victim said $500 worth of jewelry and $500 in cash were stolen, and that $50 in damage was done to the rear door.
   No one was home at the time of the incident.

   A 16-year-old male was charged Feb. 13 with disorderly conduct at the Multiplex Cinema.
   Police said an officer responded to a report of disorderly patrons at the theater, and observed the 16-year-old engaged in a verbal argument in front of the building. Police said the male ignored several warnings to stop using profanity and failing his arms, and that he smelled of alcohol.

   A 17-year-old male was charged Feb. 15 with underage possession of alcohol.
   Police said an officer was on foot patrol when he observed the male at the rear of Dave’s Pub holding a plastic bottle. Police said the male, upon seeing the officer, discarded the bottle, which contained rum and ice tea

   The owner of a 1988 Ford Escort reported that the vehicle was heavily scratched all over while parked by building 23 at the Windsor Regency Apartments between Jan. 19 and Feb. 15. The victim estimated the damage at $1,000.

   The owner a vehicle reported that the paint on their driver’s side door had been scratched between 3 p.m. Feb. 12 and 10 a.m. Feb. 13. The owner estimated the damage at $400.
