MANSFIELD — A backyard fire spread to a barn roof Tuesday evening, police said.
A Route 206 resident set a small bonfire in his yard around 8:15 p.m., police said, and embers from the fire ignited the roof of his nearby barn. Police said the resident called them after he was unable to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.
Franklin Fire Company No. 1 arrived at the scene and spent about an hour putting the fire out, police said. Damage to the barn was minimal and no one was injured.
Fire officials classified the incident as accidental, police said, and fire officials could not immediately be reached.
