Announcing the return of MILK & COOKIES a Free Series for Children

New Brunswick, NJ (October 7, 2008)—The State Theatre announces the return of the interactive, FREE series, MILK & COOKIES for children, ages three to eight, and their families. The fall series, fully-funded and sponsored by the Provident Bank Foundation and presented by the State Theatre, is a total of six performances on three select Saturdays at 10am and 12pm. Each performance contains live music and encourages audience participation. The series includes Guy Davis in The Blues Is What It’s All About on Sat, October 25Lisa Garwood in Folk Tales from Far and Near on Sat, November 15Julie Pasqual in Holiday Stories from Around the World on Sat, December 6. Presented in the cozy confines of the State Theatre’s Heldrich Room, Milk & Cookies is an ideal introduction to the performing arts for young children and their families. True to the name of the series, youngsters attending the shows will be treated to complimentary snack of milk and cookies, thanks in part to one of the program’s sponsors, Farmland Dairies. Because space is limited audiences are encouraged to register as early as possible.
Guy Davis: The Blues Is What It’s All About

Musician, composer, actor, director, and writer Guy Davis shares the traditions of acoustic blues music and African-American culture through a seamless combination of songs, stories, and performance pieces. An internationally-recognized performer and recording artist for adult audiences, Guy is equally acclaimed for his work with young audiences. For the Nickelodeon network’s Nick, Jr. channel, he wrote and recorded songs for Whoopi Goldberg’s Littleburg series, and appeared and sang in Jack’s Big Show.
Lisa Garwood: Folk Tales from Far and Near

Storyteller Lisa Garwood is a musician and educator who loves sharing stories with audiences of all ages. She serves as Arts Program Director at Cambridge Elementary School in South Brunswick, where she has forged a unique and wonderful program linking music and storytelling for children in grades K-5. In her interactive and inclusive program, Folktales from Far and Near, Lisa takes us on a world tour, stopping in Africa, India, Italy, America, and other enchanted places.
Julie Pasqual: Holiday Stories from Around the World

Julie Pasqual is a self-proclaimed “creativity junkie”—a dancer, actress, storyteller, stilt walker—and even a clown with the Big Apple Circus! Her stories have been heard in such venues as the Kennedy Center, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the New Jersey Storytelling Festival, and at the prestigious National Storytelling Network’s annual conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. To celebrate the season, Julie brings an engaging, entertaining collection of tales reflecting the holiday traditions of many cultures.
