Boy Scout concerned about Police Department

Ryan Quinerly of Springfield Township
To the editor:
My name is Ryan Quinerly and I live in Springfield Township. I am 13 years old and a Boy Scout with Troop 112 in Jacobstown. I am currently working on my communications merit badge. One requirement is to attend at public meeting. I attended a Springfield town council meeting in late January 2009. There, I watched how the council works and functions.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, several people asked about our Police Department. I learned we might lose our Police Department. The police have helped my family in the past and came to my school and taught us programs such as DARE. I believe they should keep their jobs because they help our community. I also believe they know our town better than the other Police Department.
