Margaret P Griffin of Bordentown City
To the editor:
I will vote for Heather Cheesman in the upcoming election for Bordentown City Commissioner.
Heather is the product of a multi-generational Bordentown family, and a graduate of the Bordentown School system. She holds a masters in special education and has taught in Bordentown City as well as served on the Board of Education for three years. Her children attend school in Bordentown. She is a Fellow of the NJ Young Leaders Conference.
Heather has hands-on experience in the issues of troubled adolescents as well as in immigration issues. She has in-depth experience in municipal governance, especially in the multiple state and federal regulations which must be met in order to avoid onerous tax-inflating fines on municipalities.
As a breast cancer survivor, Heather has raised funds for uninsured cancer victims, and as an active citizen of our town has worked and raised funds for the 325th Anniversary Committee.
The key aspects of Heather’s platform are:
Keep taxes as low as possible through tight fiscal management, especially of legal and other professional fees. Closely examine the basis of school funding.
Make commissioners accessible and accountable to constituents. Establish regular office hours where people can come in and meet with them. Establish public email for commissioners.
Keep our downtown growing and prosperous through establishing an Arts and Culture council.
Support shared services with other towns if, and only if, they are fair and cost-saving to the people of Bordentown City. Negotiate vigorously to ensure this occurs.
Keep a close eye on “doughnut legislation” which could force mergers of towns like ours.
Make the street sweeper hours more reasonable for our citizens.
Heather has called for a public debate among candidates for commissioner, so residents can compare their ideas. See more details about Heather’s platform, and how to contribute to her campaign, at her Web site: www.bordentowncity.org
I believe she has the energy, vision, leadership and personal accountability to help bring Bordentown into the future. Vote for Heather on May 12.
