Eye doctor to move office

MARLBORO — Patients of Dr. Steven Mishkin who visit his present location in a strip mall on Route 9 South in Old Bridge will soon be able to have their eyes examined at Millennium Eye Care’s newest location on Route 9 South in the Mart Centre in Marlboro.

The Mart Centre is near the Route 9 South entrance to the Covered Bridge adult community in neighboring Manalapan.

Millennium Eye Care received a waiver of site plan from the Marlboro Planning Board at its Feb. 18 meeting.

Mishkin said the new office will occupy the former site of Entrée Vous. The doctor said the current location in Old Bridge is cramped and has a small waiting room. The new office space will be about 2,400 square feet. Although the office is moving to a larger facility, Mishkin said there would be about the same number of patients being seen.

Millennium Eye Care has other locations in Freehold Township, Hightstown, Jackson and Brick Township. There will also be a retail use at the Marlboro offices so that patients may purchase eyewear.

The main concern of the board was the number of parking spaces in the shopping center’s lot. The board’s engineer, Ernie Peters, and planner, Richard Cramer, said they believed the current 235 spaces would be adequate even with the new medical offices.

The only proposed changes to the site are to be made within the space and a change of signs on the mall’s pylon sign. Mishkin said there will also be a façade sign placed outside the office.

The board members voted 7-0 in favor of waiving the site plan. Vice Chairman Gerald Bergh recused himself from the hearing because he is friends with the father of a doctor who works at the practice.
