The township’s Affordable Housing Board is considering sponsoring a seminar to help low- and moderate-income households avoid foreclosure and get through the difficult economic times.
People are losing their jobs and their homes, and the Affordable Housing Board wants to offer support to them, said Kim Taylor, who chairs the township advisory board. She hopes to line up a nonprofit group, such as Isles Inc., a community development organization, to participate in the seminar.
No date has been set for the seminar.
“A lot of times, these programs overlook the people who live in the affordable housing units,” Ms. Taylor said. “We may be able to help someone avoid foreclosure and help them learn the steps to sell their house or what to do to avoid foreclosure.”
“We want to assure the people who are living in the affordable units that they are not being forgotten,” she said. “My idea is that because of these tough economic times, people in the affordable units can ask and get advise to help them through these times.”
There may be low-interest loans or grants available to qualified households, she said, and the Affordable Housing Board wants to help those households connect with the grants or loans.
