Sidewalk grant applications OK’d
The Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution Monday authorizing grant applications for park improvements and sidewalk construction through the Somerset County Community Development Block Grant Program.
The resolution also authorizes the submission of applications for grant money for the ARC of Somerset County to be used in its Jerry Davis Early Childhood Center Daycare and Preschool Services.
According to Borough Administrator Gary Garwacke, county grant programs require any non-profit organizations to receive endorsement from the mayor and council before applying for these grants.
Records program endorsed by council
The Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution to cooperate and participate in the Public Archives and Records Infrastructure Support (PARIS) grant program, for the purpose of preserving, managing and storing important government records.
According to the resolution, the borough acknowledges that it is eligible for $40,000, to be leveraged with the county, for performing municipal inventories, needs assessments and strategic plans.
The county, the resolution states, will serve as the lead agency and applicant for the proposal.
These funds are in addition to $19,000 recently awarded to the borough to purchase shelving for the storage of files on the second floor of the Manville Public Library.
Women’s History Month in borough
In an effort to honor New Jersey women, the Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution to designate March as Women’s History Month.
According to the resolution, the Department of Community Affairs is encouraging municipalities and organizations to ensure that women are offered equal opportunities, that programs are implemented to address the needs of New Jersey women and that research on issues affecting women continues.
