SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Driver in crash facing trial

A Somerset woman charged with aggravated manslaughter in the death of 18-year-old Kylie Pinheiro, of Dayton, in a two-car crash in December 2007 will head to trial after a plea deal was unable to be reached with the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office.
Kimberly Green, 33, was indicted in April 2008 on one count of aggravated manslaughter, one count of vehicular homicide, two counts aggravated assault and two counts of assault by automobile. If convicted, she could be sentenced to more than 30 years. No trial date has been set.
Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Nicholas Sewitch said Ms. Green was drunk when she ran a red light on Route 1 at Black Horse Lane in her 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante and collided with a 2007 Honda Civic carrying three South Brunswick women at about 3:30 a.m. Dec. 28 2007.
Ms. Green was traveling north at an excessive rate of speed and struck the Civic, which was crossing Route 1 onto Black Horse Lane, on the passenger side, Mr. Sewitch said.
The crash killed Kylie Pinheiro and seriously injured her two cousins, Heather Pinheiro, 20, and Melissa Pinheiro, 21. Heather Pinheiro was the driver and Kylie Pinheiro was a front-seat passenger.
According to a criminal complaint, Ms. Green’s blood-alcohol content was at least .159 percent, twice the legal limit.
