No one was injured during a fire that caused extensive damage to a second-floor Kingston apartment Feb. 18.
A downstairs neighbor reported smoke to the superintendent of the Princeton Horizon apartment complex on Cynthia Court, who called 911 and reported smoke coming from the building, according to Fire Marshal Alan Laird.
The Kingston Fire Department responded and was aided by the Monmouth Junction and Plainsboro fire companies. Fire companies from Princeton and Kendall Park were placed on stand-by.
The small blaze was under control within a half hour, according to Mr. Laird. He said the accidental fire involved some papers and a portable radio.
The fire was contained to the one apartment, which sustained fire, smoke and water damage.
The apartment below sustained smoke and water damage.
Residents in 12 surrounding units were evacuated, but no injuries were reported. Mr. Laird said the occupant was not able to return to the apartment and was staying with friends.
