FLORENCE — Despite a late-winter snowstorm that caused widespread school closings, the township made it through what it hopes will be the last snow event of the year relatively unscathed.
“We did have a jump on things last night,” said Township Administrator Richard Brook on Monday. “We do coordinate through the school district.”
He said the township knew in advance that local schools would close, and was also able to warn residents not to park on the street through the use of educational/governmental Channel 19.
Plowing started at 4 a.m., he said, and was still continuing in the early afternoon. Mr. Brook said the township, like many others, does not generally plow until 3 inches of snow have accumulated.
Several trucks also spread a mixture of sand and salt onto roads.
The majority of the trucks that plow Florence are contracted from an outside vendor, Mr. Brook added.
The snowfall was the first major storm of the season, and so the township has spent a “very minimal” amount of its available funds for snow removal, he explained.
“We came out of this very well,” he said.
