Former mayor urges interim spending plan

Zigmont Targonski of Bordentown City
To the editor:
Editor’s note: The following is a letter sent to the members of the Bordentown City Commission.
The economic circumstances that we all face as well as the possibility of lost revenue to the city require that every effort should be made to stop all non-essential city spending.
You are well aware of the fact that the city may face a loss of all or part of Municipal Aid as well as a decrease in the rate of collection of local taxes.
I urge you to put forth an interim spending plan prior to the full budget that will allow some flexibility for the new City Commission to plan for any contingencies that may occur as the year moves forward.
I am fearful that with the current economic climate that the city could run out of money to pay its operating costs if spending restraints are not applied.
