Sustainable Lawrence’s second annual Green Building Expo, free and open to the public, will be hosted by the Lawrenceville School (2500 Main St., Lawrenceville) on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the School’s Irwin Dining Center.
Expo attendees will learn the latest environmentally and financially smart ways to fix up their homes or small businesses, add a room, handle repairs, paint or refinish any surface, and do ordinary maintenance. They can also discuss their needs and plans (with no obligation) throughout the day with architects, designers, builders, home repair specialists, hardware vendors, and more at the Expo’s Green Vendors’ Marketplace.
The Expo will kick off with a talk by Marty Johnson, founder and President of Isles, Inc, who will discuss ways green building can improve communities and stimulate healthy community development. Simultaneous presentations, “Key Aspects of Green Building,” and “Home Energy Management,” will follow at 11:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m.
For additional information, please contact Sustainable Lawrence Executive Director Ralph Copleman at 609-895-1629 or [email protected].
The Expo dovetails with Lawrenceville’s Green Campus Initiative, a holistic approach to campus sustainability through an on-going examination of how the school stewards its natural resources. Lawrenceville faculty, staff, and students are working to “green” everything from new building construction to food procurement. The Initiative focuses on campus energy, materials, land, and water use, applying methods that promote ecological literacy, sustainability education, and involves the broader community outside of the school.
Lawrenceville has been both a sponsor and host of several of Sustainable Lawrence’s “Natural Step for a Sustainable Lawrence” forums. These meetings are a part of a continuing slate of partnership activities between the School and Lawrence Township. They are conducted in support of the Township Mayor’s Environmental Task Force in a format developed in partnership with members of the town and school community.
