Gubernatorial hopeful Christopher J. Christie and health care visionary John F. Crowley delivered a one-two punch to an overflow crowd at Jasna Polana on Friday night, February 20. The Republican Association of Princeton’s Lincoln Day Dinner was host to the two speakers in an evening jubilee that combined public policy, celebration, and song.
Mr. Christie, the former U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, provided the enthusiastic crowd with a broad discussion of the governing philosophy he intends to bring to Trenton. Describing New Jersey as a state that has grown unsustainably hostile toboth employers and taxpayers, Christie pledged a new chapter of fiscal responsibility. “I promise you that the businesses of New Jersey cannot doworse under a Christie administration,” said the Republican hopeful whileciting statistics placing New Jersey as the worst of the 50 states inoperating climate for business.
Crowley, currently CEO of the biotechnology company Amicus Therapeutics, described how his quest for a cure to the disease which afflicted his two young children led him on a personal crusade to commercialize the drug for treating Pompe disease. Crowley reflected on the current debate over healthcare in America and emphasized the importance of crafting solutions that maintain America’s primacy as the world’s innovator in medical discovery.
Accomplished soprano Carolyn Hoyler entertained the crowd with an assortment of patriotic songs throughout the evening, while local entrepreneur ScottSipprelle offered the evening’s Lincoln dedication. Elizabeth Bucklee of Stuart Country Day School initiated the night’s events by leading the assemblage in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
This was our most successful event ever. Republicans seem more engaged and more motivated than they have been in many, many years.
