JAMESBURG — Jamesburg may get a little taste of nightlife thanks to one resident’s efforts.
Lisco’s Country Café will be hosting Open Mic Nights the second Thursday of each month at its 49 E. Railroad Ave. location.
Adding a haven for performers was the brainchild of John Lisco III, a local musician who recently returned from a stint in Hollywood to help manage the family restaurant.
”Unfortunately, this town shuts down at night,” he said. “There’s nothing in this town to cater to the younger crowds.”
The café is inviting poets, comics and musicians to the shows, hoping to draw out not only the crowds, but the undiscovered local talent as well.
”Open mic is definitely for beginners and for people who don’t have a place to play,” Mr. Lisco said. “It’s more about the community than being a rock star.”
Performers will be expected to sign in upon arrival and are welcomed to share 15 minutes of material, according to a press release.
”This format is working very well around the state in coffeehouses and other venues,” Mr. Lisco said in the release.
”We will be providing a great venue for artists to perform and gain valuable experience in front of an audience. Jamesburg needs some entertainment.”
Although the event is free, the café is offering attendees the option of a buffet at a nominal fee and will accept any nonperishable food donations for the Jamesburg Presbyterian Church’s Deacons Food Cupboard during the show.
The first Open Mic Night is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.
