The Roosevelt and Alexander Batcho Intermediate Schools’ faculty team doesn’t have any secret weapons or strategies to give them an edge against the intermediate school’s seventh and eighth-grade basketball teams during Friday’s Carol Caligieri Memorial Scholarship Game.
It’s probably so the six-staff member team doesn’t get too winded while playing the boys and the girls teams, Michael Magliacano, Roosevelt School principal, said.
”The game consists of the seventh and eighth-grade boys and girls ABIS Basketball players versus the teachers and/or staff that volunteers to play,” Mr. Magliacano said. “Some (staff members) choose to assist with the event but not to play.”
The game begins at 7 p.m. Friday in the Manville High School gym, with advance tickets available for $3. Tickets sold at the door will cost $5. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund, which a Manville High School senior receives each year.
Fourth-grade teacher Gregory Shannon, Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Secretary Debbie Gregor, Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Math and Technology Teacher William Kurzius, and Mr. Magliacano planned the event. Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Physical Education Teacher and basketball coach Daniel Sferrazza and Mr. Kurzius organized several practices to allow the students to play together as well.
Staff members participating in the game include Weston School teacher Carl Ruffer; Roosevelt School teachers Linda Liebiedz, April Stone-Fisher, nurse Angele Palmer, and Mr. Magliacano; Alexander Batcho Intermediate School teachers Erin Delaney, Melissa Mueller, Mr. Sferrazza, and Mr. Kurzius.
