MONROE: Girl charged with arson

   MONROE — A 15-year-old girl was charged with arson after police said she “disregarded a cigarette,” inside a Holmes Avenue residence, police said.
   Monroe police, fire and EMS responded to a report of a house fire at 8 Holmes Ave., Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The house was occupied by the resident and her teenage granddaughter. Both were able to leave the residence without injury and Monroe Township Fire District No. 1 extinguished the fire, which caused extensive damage to the residence, police said.
   According to police, the “cause of the fire was by the reckless actions of the 15-year-old granddaughter.” The girl was taken to Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick.
