Set on a tropical island in the Pacific during World War II, a U.S. Navy nurse falls in love with a local plantation owner in this classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. South Pacific, the winner of seven 2008 Tony Awards, features one of the most romantic scores of all time, including “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Gotta Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair”, and “Bali Hai”. With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan, "South Pacific" won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950.
The story draws from James A. Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning, 1948 novel, Tales of the South Pacific. Although well known for its extraordinary score, South Pacific is also a deeply felt drama. Its portrayal of Americans stationed in an alien culture in wartime is as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949.
This production stars BRHS seniors Harlee Gallo as Nellie Forbush, Doug Umberger as Emile de Becque, and Melissa Solayo as Bloody Mary. The cast also features juniors Ben Walker as Cable and Adam Edwards as Billis. Over forty Bordentown Regional High School students make up the cast of South Pacific, as well as ten year old MacFarland Intermediate School student Cate Donahue as Ngana and eight-year-old Peter Muschal Elementary School student Kevin Cryan as Jerome.
The Bordentown Performing Arts Center is attached to Bordentown Regional High School, and is located at 318 Ward Avenue in Bordentown, NJ. The Bordentown Performing Arts Center is a 942 seat facility whose goal is to bring local, regional and world renowned cultural performances to their community.
