Colts Neck wins CJ IV title

The Colts Neck High School girls basketball team won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV state sectional championship on March 10 at North  Brunswick High School.
The Cougars beat Montgomery, 49-28, behind the play of guards Brooke Hampton (15 points) and Lauren Clarke (14 points), plus a stifling defense that held Montgomery’s top player, Laura Coletti, scoreless.
Leeann Lanza scored 6 points off the bench and Clarke added 5 as the Cougars led 14-4 after one quarter and stretched the lead to 32-8 at halftime.
Hampton hit two three-point field goals and Clarke added five points as the Cougars outscored Montgomery, 18-4, in the second quarter.
With the win Colts Neck (25-3) has advanced to the NJSIAA Group IV semifinals on March 12 at Southern Regional High School, Manahawkin, where the Cougars will play South Jersey Group IV champion Washington Township (26-3) Tip-off time for the Group IV semifinal is 8 p.m. at Southern Regional.
