MONROE — Two Monroe Township High School students were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine Feb. 23, after a faculty member allegedly caught the two red-handed on school grounds.
The arrest took place after police responded to a call that a teacher had found a white powdery substance on a textbook, according to a Monroe Township Police Department press release. Upon arrival, the police proceeded to test the substance.
Police charged two male students, a 14-year-old and 17-year-old, with the incident, and stated the younger boy had sold it to the upperclassman, who had been preparing it for his own personal use at the time he was discovered, the release stated.
The teacher had noticed several students acting suspiciously at a workbench in shop class. As the teacher walked around the classroom he noticed a textbook under a chair with a line of white powder and a homemade straw on the cover, the release stated.
”The teacher took this book but one of the students tried to knock the book out of his hand in an attempt to destroy the evidence,” the press release stated.
Following the arrest both students were released to their parents and suspended from school, according to the release.
