Bordentown native sends support from PA

Sarah McEwan of Morrisville, Pa.
To the editor:
I grew up in Bordentown and lived there most of my life until moving to Morrisville, Pennsylvania in 2006.
While living in Bordentown, I never paid much attention to our local elections. I was aware they were happening – the signs went up and then they came down. I assumed the best men or women won. Here’s the thing – these local elections really do matter. I have learned this first hand since moving to Morrisville. Soon after our move, a radical school board was voted in and has since made it their business to run our school district into the ground. Because of this, and the overwhelming resistance to change and growth that is stagnating this town, we will be leaving when our children are school aged – perhaps to return to Bordentown.
Heather Cheesman’s long list of qualifications and her experience make her an excellent candidate for commissioner of Bordentown. What makes her the best candidate on the ballot is her passion for this town. Heather is running her campaign with a focus on responsibility and responsiveness. Responsibility is of course important, but responsiveness is what makes an elected official work for you. The openness and outreach of her campaign is merely an extension of who she is. Heather will listen to the needs of the community and preserve what is wonderful about Bordentown while moving the town forward towards new ideas for the future.
Living in Morrisville has taught us how important it is to have elected officials with the town’s best interest at heart, who will listen to their constituents. It is one of many reasons I wish I could cast my vote for Heather Cheesman on May 12.
