Wayne Irons Bordentown City
To the editor:
Fellow citizens of Bordentown City, I have known Larry Denney since early1968 when we went through training to learn the skills and techniques of fire fighting. For over 10 years, Larry served as a volunteer fire fighter at Consolidated Fire Association on Crosswicks Street. And, Larry has been serving the Bordentown City community ever since.
Larry umpired softball and baseball games at all levels for 25 years for the Delaware Valley Umpire’s Association. He was the first umpire to referee girls softball games at the state playoff level from the DVUA. As a baseball coach of my son’s Babe Ruth team that Larry sponsored, I saw first hand how Larry interacted with and supported the youth of the City. He has also sponsored numerous little league baseball teams, soccer and basketball teams over the years. Larry created, played for and then managed a team in the Greater Bordentown Area Softball League. In addition, he held several offices within this organization. Larry was also involved in the first State of New Jersey Special Olympics program at Johnstone Training and Research Center.
With the support of many residents, I worked with Larry on a pasta dinner and breakfasts that he organized as fundraisers for Bordentown City’s 325th Anniversary celebration. Larry carried off an entire year’s worth of festivities and even saved thousands of dollars to go towards the future 350th Anniversary!
Let’s all get out there on May 12 and support the man who’s been supporting our community for years! Larry’s a hard worker and I have every confidence that Bordentown City will continue to prosper under his leadership.
