2009 Pinewood Derby winners announced

Nineteen Freehold Township boys have been named winners in the 2009 Pinewood Derby Race sponsored by Cub Scout Pack 155 of Freehold.

Each Cub Scout had to design, cut, sand, build and paint a race car weighing no more than 5 ounces from a 7-inch block of soft pinewood. More than 70 Cub Scouts, boys in first through fifth grade, participated in this year’s derby held in January, according to a press release.

The cars were raced down a 50-foot long aluminum track in multiple heats to determine the top three fastest cars in the Tiger (first grade), Wolf (second grade), Bear (third grade), Webelos I (fourth grade) and Webelos II (fifth grade) divisions.

These top cars then raced in the grand finale to determine the 2009 Pack 155 overall winners. All participants received ribbons and division winners received place trophies.

The first place Pack 155 division winners will pit their cars against the best Scout cars in Monmouth County during the Battleground District Pinewood Derby this spring.
